Some Background: I lived in a very rural part of Pennsylvania until I was 17 when my family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. Talk about culture shock. Here I was - the almost equlivant of a farm girl, highly sheltered and severly protected, thrown into a crowded, metropolitan lifestyle with nary a hill, tree or babbling brook in sight. Now there were things I liked about California - to visit - but to live there was a nightmare. I was stuck there for 12 years until my husband was transferred to Illinois and I could move back to a rural setting.
